Farming data analytics on low cost platforms

Introduction

Using weather forecasts, local soil data, crop characteristics, market data etc to make better farming decisions is nothing new. However, huge corporates like Monsanto dominate the sector. Even though they have offerings for smaller farmers or farmers in developing countries, they are regarded with suspicion.

I am building simple models that:

• Run on cheap computing platforms (e.g. basic mobile phones, tablets or old PCs running Linux).
• Can use GPS data and other other sensors where available.
• Can be retrofitted to older machinery.
